Postgraduate Diploma in Food Security and Nutrition
Introduction Road Map
Introduction
Simply put, food security means whether the food is available and that everyone has access to it at all times. A household can be termed as food secure if all the members of the household have ample access to healthy, nutritious food at all times. Climate change, and associated environmental factors, ever-increasing human population, inflation, rising food prices, conflicts, and other social and economic drivers, all have major implications for the global food security situation. Such a dire scenario calls for an urgent response in terms of adaptation strategies, and policies focused on the allocation of water resources, land use patterns, postharvest processing of foodstuff, food pricing, food safety, and global food supply chains.
The one-year postgraduate diploma in food security and nutrition offered by SFAS is a unique blend of scientific approaches focusing on the challenges of both food security and nutrition. The program has been designed to equip the students with the skills required for addressing the food security issues with innovative solutions aimed at improving the food supply chain systems, enhancement of non-farm opportunities for better nutritional outcomes, and practices for livelihood development, and improvement.
